Guided Sun Breathing Practice | Harness Summer’s Solar Energy ☀️🫁

Updated: Jun 24

Happy (Almost) Summer—if you’re in the Northern Hemisphere!

Here on the East Coast, we’ve had an (over)abundance of rain—not ideal for spring hiking and biking (or the bugs!), but everything is lush and wildly green.

My backyard is no exception. For the first time ever, I planted a garden! The square bed has carrots, radishes, beets, lettuce, spinach, kale, and arugula; the round pot holds tomatoes, basil, cilantro, cucumbers, and zucchini. Off to the side: herbs galore—mint, parsley, rosemary, thyme, tarragon, dill, and rue (a delightfully fresh-smelling natural ant repellent.)

I went into this gardening thing pretty intuitively—and for not much work, I’ve already got tons of tasty greens. And those summer tomatoes are on the way!

Believe it or not, I’m already dreaming up next year’s garden—and might even try a slightly more organized approach. Because if this much abundance can happen with a laid-back method, imagine what’s possible with a bit of planning.

Following rules hasn’t always been my strength—but lately I’m noticing that intuition plus intention is a powerful combo. Success leaves tracks, and I’m learning it’s okay to follow a few.

One of the practices anchoring me right now is sadhana—a daily spiritual practice. In Kundalini Yoga, this includes early rising, dry skin brushing, cold showers (okay, 30-60 seconds—baby steps!), and a mix of breathwork, movement, chanting, and meditation. It sounds like a lot, but it only takes 30–45 minutes and leaves me feeling focused, clear, and deeply energized.

I did morning sadhana when I was in yoga teacher training and then stopped. There’s only so far I need to go down the Kundalini Yoga rabbit hole, I reasoned at the time. Now, I’m discovering that there’s A LOT further I can go with my own devotion and commitment, and that devotion and commitment open up so much magic and richness.

This is also why I teach Kundalini Yoga: to keep growing, learning, and deepening my own practice. If you want to feel stronger, clearer, and more radiant, join me Thursdays, 4–5:15pm EST—online or in person at Karuna Yoga:

I’d love to hear from you—whether you’re curious about kundalini yoga and sadhana, have garden tips, or just want to say hi. Message me anytime.
