The Power of Community: Rediscovering Connection and Joy

In recent times, I’ve observed a growing tendency to tackle life's challenges alone. This inclination seems to have intensified since the pandemic, and it’s something that deeply concerns me. It’s heartbreaking to witness how isolation has become more pronounced, impacting not just our individual lives but the collective fabric of our society.

A few months ago, I made a significant shift in my own life. I left my home and chose to live in community. I initially put my belongings into storage, and now, I’m in the process of giving away much of what I once held dear. This transition has been more than just a physical move; it’s been a profound journey of reconnecting with what truly matters.

Living in community has taught me invaluable lessons. When we come together—whether it's for meditating, preparing a meal, or spontaneously creating a bonfire to chant and dance—everything becomes richer and more meaningful. Our collective experiences amplify and deepen in ways that solitary activities simply can’t match.

As the old proverb goes, "If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together." This wisdom underscores the essence of our shared human experience. We are inherently social beings, designed to thrive in connection with others. We were, and are, meant to be together.

In this spirit, I’ve been reminding myself and my students that we are a people meant to dance and sing. This is not just a whimsical idea; it’s our birthright and our heritage of joy. For some, finding their voice or reconnecting with their body might feel like a daunting task, but the door is always open. And when we open that door within a community, the process of self-discovery and healing is magnified.

To support this journey, I’m excited to invite you to a special event: Sound Current. Taking place next Thursday, August 22 at 12pm EST, this free hour-long event is offered in partnership with the Center for Deep Intelligence. Sound Current is designed to give participants a glimpse into the beauty, power, and magic of chanting, toning, and breathing together in community.

One of the great things about this event is that it's hosted on Zoom, which means you can choose to mute yourself—or not. The focus is not on how it sounds but on how it feels. This is an opportunity to experience the collective energy and healing that comes from coming together in a shared practice.

Let’s rediscover the joy and strength that arise from unity. The door to connection and healing is always open. I hope you’ll join us in exploring and deepening this experience together.
